Head to South Asia and immerse yourself in the enticing flavours of the tropics. Sri Lankan cuisine makes use of fresh vegetables and seafood, and isn’t afraid to amp up the spice levels! Although Sri Lankan food isn’t as well-known as that of its neighbor’s, we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how delicious it really is.

Our Sri Lankan cuisine box contains powerful and aromatic spices which are needed to create a tasty three course meal for four people. Each spice has been perfectly measured into small pots, so you don’t have to worry about getting the exact measurements! In the box, you’ll find spices to make a buttery Beetroot Curry, a mouthwatering Monkfish Curry with Basmati Rice, and on the side - spicy Green Beans with Black Mustard Seeds.

The main dish in this three course menu is the Monkfish Curry and Basmati Rice. Monkfish is great for curries, as the meat is firm and lean with a mild, sweet flavour. Although monkfish doesn’t have an overpowering ‘fishy’ taste, you can swap it for prawns if you prefer. This is then cooked with spices such as fenugreek, ginger and tamarind. Add a handful of fresh spinach for a dash of colour.

Since we love Sri Lankan curries so much, we’ve decided to add in another favourite of ours - Beetroot Curry. The earthy, sweet flavour of beetroot pairs nicely with spices like cinnamon, coriander and fenugreek. All of these flavours are stewed together in coconut milk, creating a vibrant and healthy curry. Add some fresh chillies for a little kick!

But Sri Lankan food doesn’t just consist of curries. There are plenty of delicious side dishes that go well with just about anything. We’ve chosen the Spicy Green Beans with Black Mustard Seeds. Fresh green beans are sauteed together with fenugreek, ginger, curry leaves, garlic, chilli and Malay curry powder. The essential ingredient here are black mustard seeds. Although small in size, they pack a punch when it comes to flavour. They also happen to be super healthy, and are rich in minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium.

We’re strong believers in making cooking an enjoyable, hassle-free experience. That’s why in each Sri Lankan cuisine box, we’ve included a shopping list, cooking method and postcard. To make you really feel like you’re relaxing on a beach in Sri Lanka, we’ve also added a specially curated music playlist. So stick your apron on, get cooking and enjoy some traditional Sri Lankan music with your Sri Lankan food!

Here at The Spice Pioneer, we believe that great food is made with the best ingredients. We only use premium ingredients to make our spice mixes, which we roast and blend by hand at our headquarters on the Wirral.

We may be biased, but we think these boxes make an excellent gift for any foodie out there. Check out our Gift Vouchers for the perfect present!
